Ferrari Reveals New 296 Challenge Race Car

The car will make its racing debut in the 2024 Ferrari Challenge race series.

On Thursday morning, Ferrari took the wraps off the 296 Challenge, the ninth model in the history of the brand’s one-make Challenge series. It’s based on the 296 GTB road car and has much in common with the 296 GT3 race car that’s already racing around the globe.

Compared with the 296 GTB road car, the Challenge features a modified engine, aerodynamics, and suspension to maximize track performance.
The 296 GTB features a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that produces 654 horsepower, which is further enhanced by a 164-hp electric motor. Like the GT3 car, the 296 Challenge ditches the hybrid component and goes to battle with just the V-6 engine.
To compensate for the lack of the electric motor, the V-6 is modified to produce 690 horsepower, an astonishing 231 hp per liter. The aerodynamic package on the 296 Challenge is equally as impressive.
With the rear spoiler set to maximum attack, the car generates over 1918 pounds of downforce at 155 miles per hour—more than any prior Challenge car. Slowing the car down is the new ABS EVO Track braking system that includes carbon-ceramic Brebmo brakes.
Pirelli has also designed special 19-inch tires specifically for this new race car. Ferrari will present the new 296 Challenge at its Finali Mondiali event at the Mugello circuit, scheduled to run between October 24th and 30th.
